2017 was an incredible year for our Speak English Immersion Programmes...
A year where unforgettable memories were made and lifelong friendships formed as we experienced the beauty and charm of Italy, bringing together Italians from every corner of Italy and Anglos from around the world. Italians had a unique opportunity to rapidly develop their communication and confidence in English through natural conversation with our Anglos. And it all happened in a place overflowing with history, beauty and charm, where delicious cuisine and wine awaits around every corner. It’s not going too far to say that all of our lives have been enriched and the experience has given us something more than just a week of fun in Italy.
There are indeed many highlights from every location - whether its Tuscany, Puglia or Piemonte – offering something special. We’ve decided to pick a few to share with you.
A land of wine and chocolate
In the northwest of Italy lies the second largest region of Italy, Piemonte, (Piedmont in English), which is bordered on three sides by mountains, and also by France and Switzerland. Here you will find ancient castles, palaces, beautiful town squares and architecture, national parks and botanical gardens. It is also a major wine and rice growing area and offers excellent local dishes.
Massive rugged peaks, damp rice fields and gentle, undulating countryside form this interesting part of Italy. Many crops are grown in the lowlands which are extremely fertile and it is one of the great wine growing regions of Italy with more than 350,000 sq kilometres of land, producing excellent prestigious wines such Barolo, Barbaresco and Moscato d’Asti.
With glorious beaches, wonderful local cuisine and wine, stunning architecture and ancient towns, the southernmost tip of Italy should be on everyone's wish list of places to visit.
Tuscany is home to some of Italy’s historic cities and towns which lie in glorious countryside dotted with olive groves and vineyards. Add to that wonderful cuisine and friendly people and you have the perfect place for an unforgettable trip to Italy.
Tuscany is probably the most talked about region of Italy and not without reason as it is beautiful, steeped in culture and is home to some of the country’s greatest architectural and artistic masterpieces. It’s difficult to tire of the rolling hills, the vineyards, the small medieval towns, the changing colours and of course, the wonderful cuisine.
