Speak Teens staff team at Valbonella

Staff & Welfare

Your child is safe, supervised and supported - around the clock

A dedicated welfare team, a 1:6 staff-to-student ratio and 24-hour on-site assistance. Everything parents need to know about how we look after your child at camp.

Experienced, qualified and always present

The Speak Teens staff team is selected for experience, language skills and their ability to manage a residential environment with teenagers.

Staff sleep in the same corridors as the students. Rooms are divided by age and gender. There is always a qualified team member on duty, day and night - including a female and a male Welfare Coordinator responsible for the wellbeing of every participant.

The ratio is 1 Speak staff member for every 6 students, in addition to the Teen Anglos who share every moment of the day with participants.

What families say about Speak Teens

Phones, communication and homesickness

We are well aware of the challenges teenagers face around phone use and social media. Our policy is designed to minimise screen time and maximise the extraordinary opportunity the camp offers - and parents consistently tell us it works better than they expected.

Daily phone session

All students use their phones in a dedicated one-hour session each evening, from 18:45 to 19:45. Outside this window, phones are kept securely in the camp office. Students quickly find they don't miss them - the programme is full enough that no one is looking at a screen.

Emergency camp phone

Parents can call or message the dedicated camp emergency phone at any time, day or night - to check in, speak with their child or reach a member of the welfare team directly. The number is included in the pre-departure information pack sent to all families.

Welfare Coordinators, around the clock

Our female and male Welfare Coordinators are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are experienced in working with children and teenagers, and parents are welcome to contact them at any time. No concern is too small.
