Camp Location
Seven nights in a purpose-built residential camp in the Apennine mountains of Emilia-Romagna — sport, nature, and an Italian summer all in one place.
The venue
Centro Turistico Valbonella sits in the Apennine mountains of Emilia-Romagna, in the municipality of Bagno di Romagna, Forlì-Cesena. At around 700 metres above sea level, summers here are warm and breezy — a world away from the coastal heat — with the forested hillsides of the Casentinesi National Park on the doorstep.
The centre is a purpose-built residential facility with dormitory-style accommodation, dining halls, sports pitches, and open-air communal spaces. It has hosted summer language and sports programmes for years, and the layout is well-suited to a camp format: everything is on-site, so activities, meals, and social time all flow naturally together.
See it for yourself
The video below gives you a proper look around the centre — the accommodation blocks, the dining areas, the sports and outdoor spaces. It’s the best way to get a feel for the place before you apply.
The camp is residential: Teen Anglos stay on-site for the full seven days, sharing meals and downtime with the Italian students they’re here to work with.
On-site at Valbonella
The centre has everything needed for a full week of activities, meals, and downtime — without anyone needing to leave the site.
Dormitory-style rooms with shared facilities, all on-site. Comfortable and well-suited to a camp format.
All meals are served in the camp dining hall, from dinner on arrival day through breakfast on departure day.
Sports pitches and open spaces for group games, challenges, and the activities that make up the camp programme.
The centre is enclosed and staffed throughout. Welfare and safeguarding are managed by our on-site team at all times.
Common areas for downtime, socialising, and the daily phone session that keeps everyone connected with home.
One full day off-site, exploring the region with the whole camp group — included in the programme.
The surrounding area
The camp sits in one of the most scenic parts of central Italy — close to Tuscany, inside a national park, and within reach of some genuinely memorable day-trip destinations.
Ancient beech and fir forests stretch across the Apennine ridge. The camp is on the edge of one of Italy’s most biodiverse protected areas.
The town itself is known for its natural hot springs — a distinctive Italian experience a short distance from camp.
The regional border with Tuscany is just a few kilometres away, putting hilltowns and landscapes within easy reach of the camp excursion day.
Getting there
All Teen Anglos make their own way to Bologna Welcome Club and check in between 09:00 and 14:00 on the first day of their camp week. From there, a private coach transfer takes the group to Valbonella — roughly 1.5 hours through the Apennine foothills.
At the end of the week, the coach returns to Bologna Welcome Club in time for collection between 12:00 and 14:00. Flight and train bookings should only be made after a Confirmation Email has been received from Speak, as travel must align with the welcome and departure windows.
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) is well connected to major UK, Irish, and European airports. Bologna Centrale railway station also has direct high-speed rail links.
Places on each camp week are limited. Submit your application, attend a short informal interview, and — if offered a place — sign your Anglo Agreement within seven days.
