Gli Anglos sono un fattore chiave nell'esperienza Speak Teens. A partire dalla seconda metà di Luglio decine di ragazzi anglofoni di età compresa tra 12 e 16 anni e provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo, raggiungeranno l'Italia per supportare i propri coetanei nell'apprendimento della lingua inglese. Andiamo quindi a conoscere la storia di Saffy, teenager britannica che nei prossimi mesi realizzerà il sogno di visitare il nostro Paese.
"Hi, my name is Saffy Hills and I’m 12 years old. I live in the south east of England, very near Windsor. I am very excited about coming to Italy and Speak Teens because it is a new exciting experience, as I have never done anything like this before. I have never been to Italy but have always wanted to, so I am delighted to get the chance.
"Ciao, il mio nome é Saffy Hills e ho 12 anni. Vivo nel sud-est dell’ Inghilterra, molto vicino a Windsor. Sono molto entusiasta di venire in Italia e allo Speak Teens perché si tratterà di una nuova entusiasmante esperienza, mai vissuta prima d’ora. Non sono mai stata in Italia, pur avendo sempre desiderato visitarla, perciò sono contentissima di avere l’opportunità di farlo.
My role as an Anglo is to help others learn English through discussions and activities, which won’t be too hard for me as English is my native language. I think it’s important to learn English as so many people and countries in the world speak English and if you want to meet more people or travel, it helps a lot to know English.
Il mio ruolo di Anglo sarà quello di aiutare gli altri ad imparare l’inglese attraverso discussioni ed attività non saranno troppo difficili per me visto che l’inglese è la mia prima lingua. Penso sia importante imparare l’inglese considerando che così tante persone e paesi nel mondo parlano inglese, e se si vogliono incontrare più persone o viaggiare, aiuta molto conoscere questa lingua.
It is also quite interesting to learn a new language as the sentences may be formed differently and some words may sound funny. English is a fascinating language to learn because it has so many influences from other countries and has words derived from so many other languages. Some examples are: paparazzi (from the Italian paparazzo), rucksack (from the German words Ruck and Sack) and genre (from French). It is also a very complicated language to learn though as there are always exceptions to the rules that have been made so it is very impressive if you learn it fluently as a second language.
È anche piuttosto interessante imparare una nuova lingua considerando che le frasi possono essere composte in maniera diversa ed alcune parole potrebbero suonare divertenti. L’inglese è una lingua affascinante da imparare perché contiene così tante influenze da altri paesi e ha parole derivanti da tante altre lingue. Alcuni esempi possono essere: paparazzi (dall’italiano paparazzo), rucksack (dalle parole tedesche Ruck e Sack) e genre (dal francese). Tuttavia è anche una lingua molto difficile da imparare essendoci moltissime eccezioni alle regole quindi è notevole se la si riesce ad imparare in maniera fluente come seconda lingua.
The great thing about meeting teens from other countries and cultures is learning about their culture and their lifestyles as people from all over the world have different things they do, celebrate, eat and more. It is very interesting as we are only used to what we have experienced. For example, in school, my classmates and I often joke about ‘typical English weather’, which is especially ‘typical’ in winter, I can’t remember the last time we had a white Christmas and the last snow we got was in February!
La cosa grandiosa dell’incontrare teens da altri paesi e culture è quella di imparare qualcosa sulle loro culture e sul loro stile di vita perché persone da tutto il mondo fanno cose diverse come: festeggiare, mangiare o altro. È molto interessante in quanto siamo abituati a ciò che abbiamo vissuto. Ad esempio, a scuola, io e i miei compagni spesso scherziamo sul “tipico clima Inglese” che è particolarmente “tipico” in inverno, non ricordo l’ultima volta che abbiamo avuto un Natale bianco e l’ultima neve caduta è stata a febbraio!
I love food and trying new foods. I really love Italian food so that is something I’m excited about. In England, it is a tradition to have a roast dinner every Sunday, my favourite part are the Yorkshire puddings, which are actually savoury.
Amo il cibo, e provare sapori diversi. Amo veramente tanto il cibo italiano, quindi questa è una cosa che mi rende molto entusiasta. In Inghilterra è tradizione avere una “cena a base di arrosto” ogni domenica, la mia parte preferita sono gli “Yorkshire puddings” (piccoli sufflè salati) che sono davvero gustosi.
In England, because we live so close to Windsor, we were lucky enough to go and see the royal wedding! We also know some of the secrets of Windsor that you only know if you live nearby, or know people who work there.
In Inghilterra, vivendo molto vicino a Windsor, abbiamo avuto la fortuna di poter andare a vedere il “matrimonio reale”!! Conosciamo anche alcuni dei segreti di Windsor che puoi sapere solo se vivi nelle vicinanze o che possono conoscere solo le persone che lavorano lì.
My hobbies are writing stories, performing arts, kayaking, cricket, and hockey. Cricket is a very English game and even my mum doesn’t understand the rules. If I had to choose a favourite, I would have to say performing arts; I have been going to my local Stagecoach (a performing arts club) for 6 years in September, so it has been a big part of my life for a long time. Last year, I was lucky enough to perform at the Shaftesbury theatre with my Stagecoach group in an 8-minute anti-bullying medley. It was the most amazing experience and I loved every second of it.
I miei hobby sono la scrittura, le "performing arts" (danza, musica e teatro), il kayak, il cricket, e l’hockey. Il cricket è un gioco molto inglese e persino mia mamma non ne capisce le regole. Se dovessi scegliere un hobby preferito sceglierei le "performing arts"; frequento la Stagecoach (una compagnia di arti dello spettacolo) da 6 quasi anni, è quindi una parte importante della mia vita da molto tempo. Lo scorso anno ho avuto la fortuna di esibirmi al teatro Shaftesbury, con la mia compagnia in un medley anti-bullismo di 8 minuti. È stata l’esperienza più bella e ho adorato ogni secondo.
