Experienced people, with one focus.

Every member of the Speak Teens team is selected for their experience working with young people in residential settings. All staff undergo background checks before joining camp, and we maintain a low staff-to-participant ratio throughout each week.

Camp Director

Responsible for the smooth running of the full programme: scheduling, communication with families, and final decisions on welfare matters. Available to parents by phone and email throughout the camp week.

Welfare Officer

A named Welfare Officer is appointed for each camp week. Their role is to be the first point of contact for any participant who needs support โ€” physical, emotional, or practical โ€” and to escalate to the Camp Director when needed.

Activity Leaders

Activity Leaders run the daily sports, games and social activities alongside the language workshops. They work in mixed teams with both Teen Anglos and Italian participants throughout each session.

Language Teachers

Qualified EFL teachers run structured language sessions each day. Teen Anglos work alongside them as native-speaker role models, participating in conversation practice, workshops and excursion activities.

What daily life looks like โ€” for parents.

We know leaving your teenager in another country takes trust. Here are the key structures we have in place to keep everyone safe and well throughout the week.

Phones & contact

Phones are kept securely in the camp office and returned to Teen Anglos each evening between 18:45 and 19:45. This daily window is predictable for families and means your teen stays genuinely immersed in the programme during the day.

Accommodation

All Teen Anglos stay at Centro Turistico Valbonella in Bagno di Romagna. Boys and girls sleep in separate, supervised accommodation areas. Staff sleep on-site throughout the week.

Meals

Full board is included from dinner on arrival day through to breakfast on departure day. All meals are served at the venue. If your teen has dietary requirements, let us know in advance and we will coordinate with the venue catering team.

Evening & night supervision

The programme runs from early morning through to the evening. After the phone session and evening activities, a curfew applies and staff remain on-site overnight. No participant may leave the venue without staff authorisation.

If your teen is unwell

The Welfare Officer assesses any participant who feels unwell. If medical attention is needed, staff accompany them to a local clinic. Parents are notified promptly. For serious concerns, the emergency phone (+39 327 755 3233) is available 24 hours during camp weeks.

Homesickness & wellbeing

Some teens find the first day or two challenging โ€” that's normal. Our Welfare Officer checks in with participants throughout the week. If a Teen Anglo is persistently distressed, we contact their family to agree the best course of action together.

What's covered โ€” and what you need to arrange.

We want families to be clear about what is included in the admin fee and what sits outside it.

Public liability insurance Included

All Teen Anglos are covered by Speak's Unipol Sai public liability policy for the duration of the camp programme. This covers incidents arising from activities run by the camp. No action is needed from you.

Personal travel & medical insurance Strongly recommended

Personal travel and medical insurance is not included and is strongly recommended. This covers your teen's journey to and from Italy, medical treatment, and any costs arising from cancellation or curtailment. Please arrange this independently before travel. GHIC / EHIC cards provide some reciprocal healthcare cover in Italy but are not a substitute for travel insurance.

What families ask us most.

Your teen has access to their phone each evening between 18:45 and 19:45. That's the best time to reach them. Outside of that window, phones are held in the camp office as part of the programme structure โ€” this is what creates the genuine immersion experience that Teen Anglos tell us is the highlight of the week.
Our Welfare Officer assesses any participant who becomes unwell. For minor illness, we have basic first-aid supplies and a quiet space to rest. If medical attention is needed, a staff member accompanies your teen to the nearest clinic. We contact parents as soon as possible. In an emergency, our emergency phone line (+39 327 755 3233) is staffed 24 hours during camp weeks.
For non-urgent questions, email teenanglos@speakinitaly.com or call +39 080 6454860 during office hours. For urgent welfare concerns during the camp week, use the emergency phone: +39 327 755 3233. This line is monitored 24 hours a day during active camp weeks.
Yes. A curfew applies in the evenings and no participant may leave the venue without a staff member. The full week takes place within the Valbonella site and on organised group excursions, all of which are staff-led. Unsupervised trips into town are not permitted.
Please tell us in advance โ€” there is a section on the application form for dietary requirements. We share this information with the venue catering team at Valbonella ahead of your teen's arrival. If requirements are complex, it is worth following up by email to teenanglos@speakinitaly.com so we can confirm arrangements directly.
